In recent years Macau has seen acute growth of municipal solid waste (MSW). The Macau Environmental Protection Bureau (DSPA) has therefore launched the 3rd phase expansion project of its municipal refuse incineration plant (MRIP). Fichtner is acting as Owner’s Engineer for this phase which, apart from the waste incinerator, includes also hazardous waste, animal waste, sewage sludge as well as other waste treatment and recycling facilities. A further scope includes advisory services for the compliance with the new European Directive for Emissions.

Technical data

  • Municipal household waste treatment plant: 650 ton/d × 2 incinerator lines, 28 MWel
  • Sludge incineration plant: 250 ton/d × 2 incinerator lines
  • Hazardous waste incineration facility: 12.1 ton/d × 1 incinerator line
  • Animal waste incineration facility: 4.4 ton/day × 1 incinerator line
